Will the snow ever end?

On Friday 22nd March we had an unprecedented amount of snowfall in the Yorkshire area, the news have dubbed this month as the coldest in 50 years! As usual our staff and students flocked to the Leeds City College website and facebook page to find out the latest news.

On a normal day the Leeds City College website gets around 3000 hits, on Friday 22bnd March we received over 12,000! with 590 Hits on the Weather Update Post alone

Although some staff struggled to get into college, they we’re checking their emails from external devices as the web mail page on the website had over 750 hits

Our Facebook page also saw a huge spike in traffic with our snow posts getting over 7400 views, with in turn helps us to promote the college.

cipr

So we’re off to the finals of the CIPR Inside Awards tomorrow (28 February)…. eek!

CIPR Inside, the internal communication sectoral group of the CIPR, announced the shortlist of its new awards #insidestory in January, and our staff intranet / blog is up against:

•Coca Cola Enterprises
•Marks & Spencer PLC
•South Eastern Railway
•The Glasgow Housing Association
•National Trust

So no pressure! We’re just thrilled to get to the final against such worthy contenders. What will be, will be.

Wish us luck.

Everyone… stop everything!

CEREAL

Now we all know cereal is the foodstuff of heroes and champions. That is a stone cold fact.
So, imagine the excitement that would be generated if Tesco’s (other behemoth supermarkets are available) brought out a NEW flavour of mini wheats….AND THAT FLAVOUR WAS RED CHERRY???

BOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!! Excitement x taste = CEREAL ENTHUSIAST EXPLOSION!!!

But….hold on.
On the very same visit, what if you discovered….and I need you all to stay calm here…. Crunchy Nut Cornflakes….(that’s not it)….had brought out limited edition new flavours….(deep breaths)…..INCLUDING YOGHURT, CRANBERRY AND ALMOND FLAVOUR???

**thump***

Knowles hits floor.

Cereals remain unsullied.

The South Leeds Youth Hub Open Event

On Tuesday 12th February Leeds City College held an Open Event at The South Leeds Youth Hub, Middleton Road, Belle Isle.

The College, in partnership with Leeds City Council, has introduced a diverse range of courses to appeal to people of all ages and interests, from music production, filmmaking and street dance, to pre-apprenticeship programmes, money matters and martial art to employability, maths and English.

The event went well with 38 attendees – a mix of young people, adults and those who work with young people. There were tours of the facilities including the hair & beauty salons and music studio and the pancakes – cooked by Leeds City College hospitality students – went down very well – especially the ones with hot chocolate sauce on!

Councillor Kim Groves (Labour Middleton Park) attended and was very pleased with the attendance and the interest in the Centre and courses on offer.
